WATCH OUT FOR THIS!
I just did my taxes and realized this huge error on TurboTax that costed me an additional $1200 on taxes. (I ended up amending).
TurboTax ended up choosing a standard deduction over itemizing my deductions. Although initially I was about $300 less in my itemization than the federal standard deduction amount of about $27k, this transferred to my MD state Taxes choosing a standard deduction that is capped out at about $5k! What a difference in standard deduction amounts! Line 17 on MD form 502. 27k for Federal standard deduction and only $5k for State Standard Deduction!
Basically federal would cost me like $100 more but state would have given me back $1200! Tutbotax optimized my Federal Taxes without taking in account the State!
